Senior Pictures: what to wear guide
{senior photo ideas }

Kendal-130

We will talk about what clothing suggestions in your pre-session consultation and I will help guide you in your choices, but here are a few things that you can do to really make the most of your senior photo ideas. Planning what to wear for your senior pictures can really make your session amazing! Here are a few things you can do:

  1. Bring too many options
That’s right, overdo it (at least a little). That way when we’re ready for the next clothing change you have lots of things to choose from. I can help guide you towards what will look best with what backdrop or location.
  2. Be prepared to change quickly
No matter which session you choose, the time will go more quickly than you expect. The quicker you are able to change from one outfit to the next the more options we will be able to fit into your session.
  3. Make sure things fit well
Not everything that looks good on a mannequin in a store will look good on a real like human being.  Take some time to try on all of your clothes and make sure you like how they look on you. Stand in front of a mirror and be honest. Sometimes a looser piece of clothing (i.e a slightly larger shirt or jeans for example) will actually make you look thinner.  The more you love how you look in your clothes, the more you’ll love your portraits.
  4. Get rid of wrinkles
Unless it’s the style of the outfit you are wearing please check your clothes for wrinkles. Take the time before you arrive to make sure your outfits are ready to wear. Iron any wrinkles. (or do like I do and just throw things back in the dryer for a few minutes). Having your clothes neat and wrinkle free really makes your pictures shine.
  5. Patterns, colors & stripes. Oh my!
Avoid tight stripes and patterns. They don’t photograph well. Loose patterns and wide stripes are fine. Solid colors photograph really well.
  6. Group your outfits
When you have your outfits together you can put them together on hangers. That way you can grab each complete outfit as you are ready for it.  You can also put your jewelry in a plastic bag and hook it onto your hanger if you want.
  7. Variety, variety, variety…
When choosing what to bring keep in mind that you want different styles for different photos. Go with your overall style, but bring a range of beautiful things…dressy, casual, sporty, etc.
  8. Don’t forget the shoes!
Shoes can add so much to a portrait. Girls, heals can really add something exciting to your portraits. Whether dressy or casual, high-heel shoes, pumps or boots really photograph great. Flip-flops might be comfortable, but that don’t photograph as well.
  9.  Accessorize
The right earrings, necklaces, hats, and other accessories can really take your images to the next level. Feel free to bring extra jewelry and I can help you select the perfect pieces for your outfits.
  10. Be YOU!
What you wear says a lot about you. Read and understand these guidelines, but it is very important to me that you love what you’re wearing. Always be YOU first! If you love the clothes you’re in you will be more relaxed, you’ll be happier, and you’ll look even more amazing.
