Senior Portraits FAQs

Answers to a few of the questions I get all the time from seniors and their parents.

What should I wear for my session?

Don’t worry—you don’t have to figure this out alone. During your planning consultation, we’ll talk through outfit ideas, colors, and styles that photograph beautifully and feel like you. I typically recommend a mix of classic looks and something that shows your personality. Layers, texture, and well-fitting clothing always photograph well. I’m also happy to review outfits ahead of time if you’d like extra reassurance.

Do you help with posing?

Yes—100%. You do not need to know how to pose or “be a model.” I guide you every step of the way with natural posing and prompts so you never feel awkward or unsure. My goal is for you to look relaxed, confident, and like yourself—not stiff or overly posed.

Can I include sports, instruments, or hobbies?

Absolutely! Whether it’s sports uniforms, instruments, art supplies, animals, or other meaningful items, I love incorporating what makes you you. These details help tell your story and make your portraits truly personal. We’ll plan for this during your consultation.

Can I bring my car, pet, or something special?

Yes! Cars and pets can be included depending on location and timing. If you have something special you’d love to include, just let me know—we’ll talk through the logistics and make a plan.

Do you offer professional hair and makeup?

I don’t provide hair and makeup services directly, but I’m happy to recommend trusted local professionals. Professional hair and makeup is optional, but many seniors love the confidence boost it provides. If you prefer to do your own, that’s perfectly fine too—I’ll offer tips during planning to help you look your best on camera.

Should I get a haircut, tan, or facial before my session?

If you’re planning a haircut, do it about a week before your session so it looks natural. I recommend avoiding spray tans right before your session, as they can photograph unevenly. If you’re unsure about anything, just ask—I’m happy to guide you.

When is the best time to book senior photos?

Most seniors book their sessions between late spring and early fall of their senior year. Mid to late summer and early fall dates fill quickly, so I recommend booking as early as possible to secure your preferred timing.

Why choose a professional senior photographer?

Senior portraits are more than just photos—they’re a celebration of a milestone. Professional planning, posing guidance, quality retouching, and finished artwork ensure your images will be something you’re proud to display and treasure for years to come.

What if my senior feels nervous or awkward?

That’s completely normal—and expected! Most seniors start the session feeling a little unsure. I create a relaxed, encouraging environment and ease into the session so confidence builds naturally. By the end, most seniors tell me it was way more fun and comfortable than they expected.

Can parents, siblings, or friends be included?

Parents are always welcome—and required for seniors under 18. Friends are great too if they help you relax. I do not take family/sibling photos during a senior portrait session. I like to keep the focus on the senior. I do however offer complimentary family portrait sessions with any senior portrait session & would love to schedule that for another date.

Do you photograph yearbook photos?

Yes. A complimentary yearbook photo is included with all senior portrait session orders.

Is there a minimum purchase requirement?

No. There are no minimum order requirements. You only purchase what you love. Most families choose a combination of artwork and digital files, and I’ll guide you through options that fit your needs and budget.

What products are most popular with senior clients?

Wall art for the home, Legacy Albums, and gift prints for family members are especially popular. Many families also choose graduation announcements and keepsakes for grandparents. During your ordering appointment, I’ll help you choose products that make sense for your space and how you want to enjoy your images.

What is your rescheduling or cancellation policy?

Life happens—especially during senior year. If someone is sick, injured, or the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll reschedule for the next available date that works for everyone. I just ask for as much notice as possible. Session fees are non-refundable, but are transferrable to any future date.

What makes your senior sessions different?

Every session is customized. From the planning consultation to the final artwork, everything is designed around you. My focus is creating meaningful, timeless portraits that reflect who you are right now—while making the experience relaxed, fun, and memorable.
