Dear Class of 2020,
I have spent so much time over the last six weeks thinking about each of you. Feeling each of your heartaches, watching all of the posts on social media, wondering what I could do to make this better for you. I have been silent. I have been rooted firmly in this place of quiet…not from lack of empathy, but from an overflowing abundance of it. My heart breaks for all of the “normal” things that you won’t have…all of the losses for both you and your families…all of the beautiful and fun parts of a senior year that have disappeared. The celebrations that I watch from a distance with great joy each and every year.
If life has taught me anything though it’s that this adversity will make you stronger…it will mold and shape you in positive ways that you can’t even begin to imagine just yet. There will be so many things in life that you will be able to handle because they just won’t seem like a big deal any more. You will RISE…and when all of this has finally settled down, each of your lights will shine spectacularly bright…because that’s what you are. Spectacular.
I know this won’t take a way what you’re feeling at the moment, but please know that I am really looking forward to witnessing the bright light all of you will be shining on your futures soon.
